When we will be able to start lessons?
Registration opens when space becomes available in the teaching schedule. My students love learning here, so space doesn't open very often! The wait time is likely to be 12-18 months and may vary depending on student age and choice of instrument.
How much are lessons?
Please click here to see the pricing options. Prices shown are per student and are the same for each instrument.
Where are you located?
Starr Music Academy is located just off Main Street in downtown Rio Grande City behind The Hernandez Building (Grande Garbage). Look for the sign on the front gate, or come thru the back entrance in the alley between Lopez and Garza streets.
What age do you begin lessons?
Music lessons can start from birth! Babies and toddlers are invited to join my Music and Movement Classes on Wednesday afternoons. For instrumental or voice lessons, I accept students as young as four. To have the greatest success, beginning students should be able to recognize letters and numbers, know how to hold a pencil or crayon, and have some experience with a structured learning environment like school or daycare.
Do you teach adults?
Yes! I teach stress-free recreational music classes for adults on Friday evenings. I also offer private lessons for adults based on my availability. Please join the waiting list to request private lessons.
Do you teach private lessons?
I believe in a small class format so much that I have limited availability for private lessons. In the small group setting, students get the encouragement and motivation of a class with their friends, while still getting individualized instruction and attention. I schedule private lessons for advanced students based on availability.
How many students are in a class?
Each class has 3-6 students grouped by age and ability.
How long are lessons?
Group classes meet for one hour each week. Private lessons are 30 minutes long.
What if we miss a lesson?
When you sign up for lessons you do not pay for individual lessons. You do however pay to reserve a time slot on my schedule for the full length of the course. I am happy to provide alternate class times, schedule permitting, or do a Zoom lesson if a student cannot make it to their class reservation. No tuition credits are given for missed lessons.
Does my child need prior music experience to join a class?
No, I start beginners from square one and am with them each step of the way! No prior experience with music is necessary.
