Starr Music Academy is currently not accepting new students
Students at Starr Music Academy progress through an innovative curriculum which emphasizes staff-note reading, rhythm counting, sight-reading, solo playing, ensemble playing, and music theory. In lessons, students play solo and in ensemble with orchestrated accompaniments. In addition, classes at the Academy include engaging theory fun sheets and entertaining board games which teach and reinforce concepts. Starr Music Academy teaches beginners through advanced students to read music and accompany other musicians which lead to a lifetime of enjoying music making.
Meet the Teacher
Corine Garcia has taught piano, violin, and voice since 2003. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from the honors program at the University of Texas-Pan American with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Music. Corine taught for eight years at Roma ISD where she taught mariachi and helped start the district's orchestra program.
Corine has directed and performed with mariachis, orchestras, and string quartets and has experience with jazz, tango, musical theater, and opera. She is a multi-instrumentalist and recording artist with music released on Apple Music, Spotify, and Pandora under the name Corine Garcia and the Meow Meow Meows.
Corine is an active member of the Magic Valley Music Teachers Association where she is the chair of both the Student Affiliate and Theory programs. Her students are actively involved with MVMTA and the Texas Music Teachers Association and Student Affiliate activities. She is also the local coordinator for the Music Link program, a non-profit organization that works to provide music lesson for deserving students demonstrating financial need.
